Those old Sterling Silver items are worth $$$!.
I have seen Sterling Silver items basically given away at yard sales
and flea markets many times. Before you trash or sell your old
silver items, bring them to Tri-City Gold Buyers and let us make you
an offer!
How can I tell if my items are real silver?
Almost all real Sterling Silver will be marked "Sterling",
"Ster", or "925". If the item looks like it might have been made
before 1900, it could be real and just not marked. Also some hand
made items are not stamped. You can also use a magnet to test.
Neither Gold not Silver are magnetic, so if a magnet sticks to the
items it is not silver or gold. Please note, that just because a
magnet does not stick does not mean it is silver or gold, other
metals (copper, aluminum, etc.) are also non-magnetic. Also be aware
that many times, real gold & silver items will have sections made
from other magnetic metals. I have also seen real gold and silver
items that have been alloyed (blended) with other magnetic metals
and are then "slightly" magnetic. The best way to tell is to use an
acid test. This is not something I recommend for you to try at home.
Just bring your items to us and we will test them for you at no cost
or obligation at all.
Silver is much cheaper than Gold, is it really worth my
time to bring it in?
Absolutely! Sterling Silver items are 92.5% silver so you get paid
for much more of the weight than you do with gold items. Silver
items are usually quite heavy. We have bought silver flatware
(forks, spoons, knives, etc.) sets for as much as $1,550 (That's
worth bring in!). Silver bowls can be worth $50 to $200 or more!
My items is stamped "Sterling Weighted", what does that
mean? Are they worth anything?
It means that part of the item is filled with cement or wax. This is
seen on almost all sterling candlesticks and compotes (candy dish).
Also, almost all dinner knives have weighted handles and a stainless
steel blade. As for the value, we pay for the weight of the silver
itself. Having done this for years, we are very good at estimating
the weight of the actual silver on these type of items. If you
prefer to break these items apart before you bring them in, that is
fine, but PLEASE be careful. The silver will be very thin and as
sharp as a knife. It is very easy to get cut doing this.
What kind of Silver Items do you buy?
•Jewelry (Any Condition)
•Bullion (Coins, Rounds, Bars, Ingots)
•90% Silver U.S. Coins (Minted before 1965)
•40% Silver U.S. Coins (Kennedy Halves Minted 1965 to 1970)
•Sterling Silver Flatware

•Sterling Silver Bowls, candy dishes, goblets, etc
